Hanusa Hardware and Rental is a family-owned business that has been serving the Council Bluffs community for 77 years.   In 1931, Ted A. Hanusa founded Hanusa Plumbing Company and operated it out of his garage in Council Bluffs.  Eventually, all of Ted’s sons, Carl, Harold, Ted P., and Bob helped operate the plumbing service.  As the success of the business grew, plumbing supplies and hardware items were added for retail sale and the business moved from the garage to a storefront location at 100 East Broadway.  In 1959, the focus of the business changed, and Hanusa Company became a retail plumbing and hardware store exclusively. 

By the 1970s, Ted P. Hanusa had become the sole owner of Hanusa Company, and in 1980, the business moved to its current location at 1274 East Pierce Street.  Dan Hanusa, Ted’s son, began working at the store at age 16 and in 1996 became the President and Manager of the business.

In 2008, the business name was changed to Hanusa Hardware and Rental to reflect the strong hardware emphasis and the line of rental products that were added that year. We are proud of our record of customer service and the assistance we continue to provide for the “do-it-yourselfer”.
